Anybody doing anything exciting? Interesting? Just working? How's that going? ANybody travelled?
Me, I'm having a quiet summer, but I like that. I'm catching up on my reading (mostly free choice). Doing a lot of work around the house, particularly in the yard -- which I enjoy. In the evenings I like to sit on my screen porch watching the Red Sox. We hope to get away to the Cape for a week in August, but that may not be possible.

The most interesting thing I'm doing this year is learning to row crew. It's a varsity sport at Farmington High School, where my son will be a freshman next year. His brother rowed, and he's thinking of it, too, so we enrolled him in a program that meets three evenings a week -- and somehow I ended up enrolling in the adult program.
So what are you guys doing this summer?

Hello Mr. MacArthur! My summer has been awesome so far but I have mixed feeling about senior year. It's going to be exciting yet hard all at the same time. Your rowing program sounds very interesting...it's good to stay active. Personally, I went to Marthas Vineyard for the first time last week. It wasn't what I was expecting. I was thinking the houses would be more expensive looking; considering the cheapest one sells for about half a million! But it's a very quite island, one I would consider visiting again when I am older. Well, I will be checking back here periodically to keep up with my blogs. Have a good summer and see you in August!
Hello Grace Hutton here writing to you from the back woods of Maine. I am at a girls sleep away camp called Alfrod Lake Camp for the summer (eight weeks). I am a counselor and work at the ropes coarse. It is so hard core and I love it! So I am living in a tiny canvas tent with seven other girls (some of the best friends I have ever had) in the middle of the woods. It is fantastic. That is what I am up to this fine summer. I hope all of you are well and any word from you would be great. I don't have much contact with the outside world you see. Well I miss you all and will see you soon.
GRACE!!! wow, its been a while. I miss you! Your camp sounds so fun! My summer is a complete bore compared to yours. Ive pretty much done nothing but volunteer at numerous places and sleep. =) but its all good. Where in Maine are you? Even though you dont have much contact with the "outside world", theres no worries, because nothing ever happens in Tolland. haha. Have fun up in Maine and cant wait to see you again at the end of August when we are SENIORS!!!! much love, Jess
My summer? Dear God in Heaven, in the last few weeks I have experienced more pain in my everlasting soul than one might otherwise incur by having a hand thrust through a meat grinder.
Upon departure of my scholarly prison, everyone in my family promptly dropped dead of malaria. But, not just Normal Malaria; AIDS Malaria! (This is much worse, you see!)
Following this, a petroleum barge crushed my home.
HVING GOOD SUMMAR LOL
Gracie!!!!!!!!! I miss you so much my dear. I have spent most of my summer in New Hampshire skiing, skiing, sailing, swiming, and rowing just like you Mr. MacArthur! We have a one person shell so i do that most mornings when the lake's really quiet. I love it!
I have had an awesome summer so far. We started off by going to Georgia to see my grandparents. It was a little bit to middle of nowhere for me, but we had fun seeing my grandparents, and we even got to see some friends we hadn't seen for 7 years because they had been living in Bosnia. We then came home for 4 days before leaving for youth camp with our church for a week. This was also a ton of fun, since I got to spend a week straight with most of my closest friend. But here's the best part! The day after we got home from that, we left for africa for 2 1/2 weeks. This was an awesome trip, and I didn't want to come home. We worked with the people, and then went on safari. I loved everybody i met so much, and we're trying to figure out when we can go back again! Looking at either next year or 3 years from now. Anyways, all of that to say, I now get to do my summer reading. I had Enchanted Night with me on the Africa trip, so I got that done, but now I get to do the other two! See you guys in August.
Oh, I miss you guys. I come back to good old Tolland in a little more than a weeks time.
Hang in there Andrew you will make it through. Some how you always do.
Hey Jess! I am in Hope Maine. It is in the middle of the state next to Camden.
Katie! Oh you water rat. I got up on one ski the other day.
Africa!? Wow Rebecca. I though Maine was far away.
Hi, Mr. MacArthur and everyone else. I went to Boys' State, which is a youth leadership thing for boys--you simulate running a state for a week, with trials, legislation, and all that stuff. It was alright--there were far too many speeches and way too much voting. It was hard to enjoy myself, though, as I somehow caught a whopper of a cold in the 95+ degree weather.
I went to Scout camp at Treasure Valley in Rutland, MA. The weather held out for the entire week, which was really nice. I got the Rifle Shooting and Orienteering merit badges (which means I traipsed around in the woods and shot guns for most of the day). It was a pretty good time, and I have started working on my Eagle project (which is a whole 'nother can of worms).
I'll have to drop this into my bookmarks, now that a certain British wizard has stopped disrupting Amazon.com and I've begun reading the books. See everyone around. Except Andrew, from the looks of it.
Sounds like everyone is having a good summer...or at least interesting one. lol Its hard for me to keep focused this summer, maybe because we're going to be seniors!! Ahhh i dont want childhood fun to end- I was just getting used to it. :( But anyways I went on vacation to Misquamicut beach for about a week and that is always a good time! Now I'm off to more fun and some reading too!
Well I spent the month of July singing, dancing, and acting in the cast of HSM for Tolland Youth Services Community Theater. I played a skater named Mongo. All in all it was quite fun, although the premise is cheese-tastic.(Disney- what do you expect?) I also turned 17, and spent a very emotional 15 hours reading HP:DH.(loved it!) In the beginning of August I traveled south to Myrtle Beach and turned a nice shade of stop sign red. I also visited Virgina Beach, and two colleges in Boston.
Like our good friend Mike Elliot, I also went to Boy State. The food was by far the best part as there was a buffet for every meal. However, watching Andrew's controversial comedy bit at the talent show was fun.
In mid July, I awoke one morning due to some of the worst stomach pain of my life. Eventually, it was determined I had a gimpy appendix and had to have it removed. So for about three weeks, I have done nothing. I'm healed now so my summer has kind of just started. I have to cram all the fun in during this last month. But I love to procrastinate.
My summer? I did the TYSCT summer play, so cheesy it's not even funny, but still a good time. Then, I got a better job at a dyacare, quit my old job at Mitchell's Coffee House, and painted my room. I also, of course, got very excited for the Deathly Hallows stuff, for good reason. There was a family vacation to Fort Lauderdale, which actually pretty good. And, yes, I am excited for High School musical 2. Yes, I know. But still.
Aloha everyone!
For the past week and 1/2 I've been wayfaring around Florida with mi familia. We've done everything from catching scallops in the Gulf (199 is our record!) to kayaking through the Everglades. I also got to squeeze in time for college touring one day, and got good critiques on my art portfolio. Right now, I'm chillin at the Lime Tree Resort in Long Key, getting ready for a snorkeling excursion at the reef. Everything's been fun, but hectic!
My summer's been one long trek after another! I started the first week of vacation driving up to Canada -camping and visiting relatives, mostly- but also stopping by the Falls and a few other choice places (a strawberry farm in Ontario, a genuine hippie store in Montreal, and so on). In between that and now, I've just been hanging out with friends & tripping around Boston.
But the best is yet to come; I'll be spending the last 3 days of the summer in Disney World before making the long trek back to home, T-town and school!
Hope the rest of you are cramming in as much fun as you can before the 29th :)
This vacation I had the joy of visiting Cape Cod just as Mr. MacArthur did this month. I stayed at a hotel near the ocean where I went jet skiing with my cousin. While I was up there I saw Rush Hour 3 which was great and went to a restaurant called Hearth and Kettle which served tasty lobster. Driving up to the Cape through all the traffic was definitely worth it.

At Girl's State, Blumenthal was creepy and orange. I felt like Chris Hansen was gonna show up any minute.
Basically all summer I have been working or just hanging out with my friends. I work at FYE at the mall and must insist that everyone come a visit me, for it is very boring. (I could even hook you up with a discount!!) I wish I did not have to work so much, but college isn't going to pay for itself, so I in the end I didn't go out too much.
However recently I journeyed to Chester with my buddy Max, since there was a vintage-hippy type store in the small town. This place is an hour away, and guess what?! It was closed on Mondays. I was very mad and somewhat discouraged. The lesson here is: Don't drive to far places in hopes that you will get what you seek, because they will be closed. That or: Call ahead of time.
Oh yes, Andrew and Max, your summers seemed to be filled with quite the adventures.
My summer has been pretty dull. I planned to work for most of the summer to save up money, but they never seemed to need me so I had to quit. So my I ended up spending the summer watching my younger siblings. Yeah, I'm ready for school to start again.
